High Proportion Of French Prisoners Suffer From Psychiatric Disorders And Substance Abuse

Substance abuse disorders (SUDs) and other psychiatric disorders are common among prison populations. A dual diagnosis (DD) refers to a co-existing SUD and any Axis I disorder, such as depression, schizophrenia, or social phobia. A new study has not only confirmed DD among prisoners in France, but has also found that it is a major risk factor for suicide.

Researchers Concerned That Depression Is Unrecognized In Physician-Assisted Suicides

According to a study published on bmj.com,
Oregon’s Death with Dignity Act may not be adequately protecting the
25% of terminally ill patients in the State of Oregon who have
depression and then choose physician assisted suicide. The Death with
Dignity Act was passed in Oregon in 1997 and allows physician-assisted
dying for terminally ill patients

Depressed Dialysis Patients More Likely To Be Hospitalized Or Die

Dialysis patients diagnosed with depression are nearly twice as likely to be hospitalized or die within a year than those who are not depressed, a UT Southwestern Medical Center researcher has found.

Study Showed New Episodes Of Depression Delayed In People Taking Cymbalta(R)
